Email Extreme Sports are nontraditional sports and activities that require participants to combine athletic skill with pronounced risk. Several reasons have been cited for the growth of extreme sports since that time.
In a previous article for another publication, I had received criticism for my choice. To my surprise and delight, ToysPeriod playfully shared with me that both systems are equally flawed, and, therefore, I should feel free to exercise my own choice in the matter.

Before that time, even cave paintings are absent, so we are really stuck. During the hunter-gatherer period, when people had the opportunity to settle for awhile, perhaps when herd migrations were complete for a season, members of a community would come together and choose a flattened stone or clay area as a "playing field" upon which to mark out game designs.

The leaders of hunter-gatherer communities generally designed the areas themselves. Games played in conjunction with these designs involved jumping, and skipping, as well as throwing or tossing rocks, pebbles or specially carved pieces at specified targets, the said geometrical shapes previously drawn.
Much like an horizontal dart board, participants throwing rocks, pebbles or pieces most accurately were declared victorious. Games often involved wagering.
There is some evidence that the most accurate rock throwers were at times besieged with groupies referred to as "Rockies. The board and pieces of Senet suggest elements of both chess and checkers, with a bit of cribbage thrown in for good measure, although no one knows exactly what the rules of the game were.
Thus far, no archaeologist has discovered an instruction manual or a Senet set in an original factory box.
Unlike games such as chess, it is generally agreed that Senet was based more on luck than skill, moves being determined by the throw of four flat sticks painted on one side.
Depending how they fell, it is assumed that a certain numbered square was captured or steps were taken on the board.
There are, however, several versions of Senet game rules that have been invented by the modern imagination. If you, the reader, wish to try your luck with Senet, you can find alternate suggested rules of the game at gamecabinet. Many of the Senet boards and pieces were very beautiful.

As a personal aside: My favorite personage of all time, a woman who epitomizes the light side of play, Lucille Ball, spent the better part of her final years playing backgammon in her front parlor with a friend who she allowed to live in the guest cottage on her property for the very purpose of playing the game with her.
